Elegoo Launches New Phecda Laser Engraving Machine on Kickstarter

Mar 24, 2023Mar 24, 2023

Find out what Elegoo's new Phecda laser engraving machine is all about.

Hot off the press from Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley, open-source electronic company, Elegoo, announced their first laser engraving and cutting machine: Phecda. The product officially launches on Kickstarter on 8 April 2023, with an unbeatable 60% early bird discount priced at just $240.

Since its founding in 2015, Elegoo has carved out a niche, developing quality, cutting-edge, and affordable 3D printers. The thriving technology company is dedicated to open-source hardware research and development, production, and marketing. Known for its dedicated customer service, the brand strives to allow makers to have access to the right technology to create everything and anything. So many makers, at home, in schools, and worldwide, have harnessed their creativity through 3D printing, thanks to Elegoo. The brand launched its first product in 2019, and, after raising $146,000 in one minute with its second launch in 2020, became the leading brand in domestic LCD consumer 3D printer shipments. To date, Elegoo has surpassed sales of 500,000 units globally. With the release of Phecda, even more creatives will be able to enjoy the quality of Elegoo through a new artistic medium.

Much like 3D printers, laser engravers, etchers, and cutters allow for autonomous use once a design is plugged into a computer, which controls the device. So it's no surprise that Elegoo, designer of numerous 3D printers including Mars, the first LDC 3D printer, has expanded into this product category.

Keep reading to find an overview of the specs and features of Phecda and to learn how to get the most out of this state-of-the-art engraver.

Phecda is made for professional makers and hobbyists alike and is perfect for a wide range of DIY and crafting projects. The full machine takes up 673 x 660 mm of workspace, with a height of 190 mm. The engraving size is an expansive 400 x 400 mm, allowing it to meet the artistic needs of many users. With a weight of 14.5 lbs, it's light and easy to maneuver around the workspace. Not only will Phecda get the job done, but the sleek aluminum alloy design ensures it will be a welcome and attractive addition to any workstation.

As for power, there's certainly no shortage with the Phecda engraver. Apart from the 10W power laser engraving machine, Elegoo has also released a 20W superpower machine to tackle bigger jobs in less time. The laser head height adjustment ranges from 0-75mm and Phecda has a maximum engraving speed of 25,000mm/min (X-axis) and 18,000mm/min (Y-axis). When it comes to the precision of engraving, this machine boasts a 0.06 mm spot diameter and offers an engraving depth of 0-8 mm. Phecda is a manual focus engraver with a focus bar for ease of use and is compatible with most common engraving software, including LaserGRBL and LightBurn.

Most laser engravers on the market feature a standard vertical structure engraving head. Elegoo, however, being dedicated to research and development, took on the challenge of redesigning the laser head module. This means the Phecda comes equipped with left, middle, and right structures to offer greater versatility. You’ll also notice dual fans on both the left and right sides. This added element ensures the greatest possible heat dissipation, which prolongs the service life of the laser head. Additionally, the plug-in design of the laser head is easy to install and replace thanks to its ability to be inserted directly through the backplane rail.

If you’ve used a laser engraver before, you know that these machines can produce a lot of smoke since the laser is essentially vaporizing the material in order to remove layers. Elegoo has engineered special design features into Phecda to protect both the health of its users and the environment. Thanks to a magnetic visor absorption shield and smoke filter installed on the top of the Z-axis, the engraving environment of this machine remains relatively sealed and silent. The escape of smoke from the engraving process is effectively reduced and potentially hazardous gases are filtered. Goggles are also included in the package, as with most laser engravers, to protect eyes from laser damage and the machine uses a high-quality power cord.

With the Phecda engraving machine, artists don't have to break the bank to see their designs brought to life off-screen. It's easy to permanently and precisely cut onto the surface of, or even straight through, various materials. There's even a rotary axis module to easily engrave on curved and cylindrical objects. The machine can use a WiFi connection, and users can upload and edit pictures through the comprehensive app. It also has abilities to create text, paintings, and much more. There's no limit to what you can create, and below are a few inspirational thought-starters.
